MPC Kit# 1-0820
78 Trans Am (68523 bytes)

78 Trans Am (43357 bytes)
The second kit in the WAR series. This one is an MPC kit and is 1/25 in scale. It appears to have some outlandish customizing options. This was a sign of the times for the late 70s. Most people were heavy into customizations. The small print below the WAR Eagle title says "Firebird Cafe Racer" as if this is to explain the customized car. No further information is available at this time...

MPC Kit# 1-3216
78 Trans Am (58199 bytes)

78 Trans Am (31649 bytes)
This is a pretty cool kit for being a snap kit. Its manufactured by MPC and is a Trans Am decked out to look like a police car. No further information is available at this time...

MPC Kit# 1-7815
78 Trans Am (57064 bytes)

78 Trans Am (41837 bytes)
This kit is exactly the same kit as above. The only difference is in the box top. The kit above was titled 1978 Trans Am Firebird while this one states New Trans Am Firebird.

MPC Kit# 1-7880
78 Firebird (34694 bytes)

78 Firebird (36486 bytes)

78 Firebird (24998 bytes)
This is an interesting an item. Its not a real kit, rather a fake one made by someone who thought that a kit modeled after the Rockford files Firebird would look like this. Its even sealed in plastic cellophane and has its own bogus MPC kit #. Someone was pretty creative.

MPC Kit# 6332
78 Trans Am (62689 bytes) This model is a MPC brand 1/25 scale kit. The kit is not dated.  The kit is molded in black. The kit is designed to be built stock and even though the box cover states it has many optional parts, there are very few included (if any). This kit only includes the stock snowflake rims in chrome. The T-tops from the body have been pre-cut, however there are not T-top inserts for it.  The rear spoiler and wheel caps are separate parts from the body and need to be glued on. Decals include all that are on box cover plus the sail panel birds, front fender and spoiler Trans Am decals as well as a small Pontiac decal for the right of the rear spoiler.

78 Trans Am Promo (43833 bytes)

78 Trans Am Promo (42153 bytes)
This is a dealer promo offered in 1978 to buyers that bought a new Trans Am at the dealership. From 1975 to 1981 promos were offered as unbuilt kits. This kit is the Starlight Black version. The following is from the Promo section of the site:

Trans Am Coupe –Colors known to exist: Starlight Black and Platinum. Changes from the 1977 kit included a set of snowflake wheels, chrome exhaust splitters and a "Hurst" designed T-Top roof. The black cars came with gold chrome parts and a complete set of gold Special Edition decals. The platinum car came with silver chrome parts and the same red, gray and black decal sheet from the 1977 kit. A couple of errors with the decal sheet were the l973 –1977 style lettering and the 6.6 liter shaker scoop decal. For 1978 Pontiac didn’t use decals on the shaker for the standard engine Trans Am. The optional Hi-Performance motor used the T/A 6.6 decal. Interior, chassis and tires remained unchanged from the    1975 - 1977 kit. The colorful box featured a Solar Gold Trans Am on the cover and different Trans Am features on the sides. These pictures were featured in the 1978 dealer brochure. Value for a factory sealed unbuilt kit in near mint condition is in the $30.00 – $40.00 ranges.
