Lindberg Kit# 6507
Kammaback (44553 bytes)

Kammaback (27794 bytes)
One of only two known models of the Kammaback Firebird this is a rare Lindberg model of the proto-type "Type K" Trans Am wagon. Pontiac actually built the car in 1978 but it was refitted with a new front end for the 79' model year. The "k" is for Kammaback. The body parts are molded in the brown seen on the box top but the rest of the parts are molded in black. This is unusual when compared with most kits that are molded all in one color. There isn't an engine included with this kit. Rather they built the outline of an engine into the body molding. Onto this a one-piece intake/valve cover piece is glued to the top of the engine to complete its appearance. The wheel whell spoilers are also molded already attached to the body. On the underside an oil pan and flywheel cover are part of the undercarriage mold to complete the simulation of an engine. These parts are molded in black as is the entire one piece undercarriage. The tires are not rubber, but rather plastic. Chrome includes the rims, air cleaner (which is also one piece and is glued onto the intake), a long antenna that is not seen on the box top and interestingly enough the shaker scoop. This is weird because it appears brown on the box top and should be body color. The rims are the Turbo rims that appear on the box top. Decals include the flames seen on the box top and two "USA-1" license plate decals. Included with the decals are instructions on "How to Apply The New *Press-Cal Decal". These are not standard decals that are used with water as most of us are familiar with, but rather a type of transfer decal that you put on by holding the paper with the decal on the item and rubbing back and forth with a pen or coin. First kit I've ever seen use this method with decals. The kit is dated 1984.

Monogram Kit# 2258
79 Trans Am (68282 bytes)

79 Trans Am (35103 bytes)

79 Trans Am (23039 bytes)
This kit is manufactured by Monogram and is 1/24 scale. The box top claims the kit is molded in off-white and you can make out the words "Turbobird" on the rear quarter panel. This must explain the extremely odd looking hood installed on this car. Apparently those must be dual turbo inlets or something similar. Maybe an off shoot of the old Formula hood. Also the front end on this car looks like some kind of hybrid mixture of the front ends from '78 and '79 and gives the car a toothy grin. No further information is available at this time...
