Monogram Kit# 2012
'70 Trans Am (71022 bytes)

70 Trans Am (33285 bytes)

70 Trans Am (50699 bytes)
This is a 1/32 scale Monogram kit of a custom 1970 Trans Am. The kit is almost entirely molded in blue. Chrome accessories are limited to the mags, the front grill, rear bumper, taillights, shifter, and air cleaners. Their is no design for a shaker setup with this kit. Instead you get an engine topped by dual four barrels with separate triangular chrome air cleaners that stick out of the hood. The decals include what you see on the box (notice the white "Trans Am" decal that is affixed to the door rather than the fender) and a license plate reading "Trans Am". The text on the side of the box claims the engine is a 455. The wheel spoilers and trunk lid spoiler are molded into the body. Being 1/32 the kit pieces are tiny and few. This one could be put together in just a few hours with your kids. The kit is dated 1983.

Monogram Kit# 2794
70 Trans Am (40622 bytes)

70 Trans Am (32456 bytes)
This is a Monogram kit for the 1970 Trans Am. Its the larger 1/24 scale. I have bought and built a couple of them. The model comes molded in white. Chrome pieces include the rear bumper, front grill, a set of Rally IIs, and the top end on the engine. Decals include a complete set of either blue or white stripes depending on whether you want to paint it white or Lucerne blue. Each set includes the large center stripe for the trunk roof and hood, the small bird on the nose, and "Trans Am" decals for the rear spoiler and each fender. A single Illinois license plate is also included. The kit is dated 1991. An interesting note: the box top features a short paragraph on the Trans Am and erroneously claims the car was powered by a 455. The best engine available in 1970 was the Ram Air IV 400. The 455 became the standard power plant in 1971.

These two photos show a 1/25 scale MPC kit based on the 1970 Firebird Formula raced by Bill Knafel called the "Tin Indian". You may have also seen the kit of the 1968 Firebird Bill raced under the same name on Models Lot#1. Both models were featured in an issue of Pontiac Enthusiast and were touted as being rare and desirable among model collectors. No further information is available at this time....

71 Trans Am (39746 bytes)
This is a 1/25 scale MPC kit of the 1971 Trans Am. What's interesting is that MPC actually used the Trans Am name on the box where the usually just put Firebird. No further information is available at this time...

MPC Kit# 1-7215-225
72 Formula (47504 bytes)

72 Formula (70925 bytes)

72 Formula (69988 bytes)

72 Formula (47674 bytes)
This is a 1/25 scale MPC kit of a '72 Formula (box identifies it as a Firebird). It can be built three ways, stock, drag, or custom. The kit includes a very unique set of "Royal" decals. The term "Royal" is famous with Pontiacs. It was the name of a famous dealership that had a reputation for modifying factory built Pontiacs with lots of high performance parts at the customers request for an added expense. The kit also includes a lot of extra parts that provide detail depending on which version you choose to build like a roll bar, slicks, custom headers etc... This is a very rare, collectable, and expensive kit.

Doyusha Kit# DBS-7-9800
73 Trans Am (56167 bytes)

73 Trans Am (15383 bytes)

73 Trans Am (23561 bytes)

73 Trans Am (16541 bytes)
This '73 Trans Am model was made in Japan, manufactured by Doyusha, until it was discontinued sometime in late '97. Its a very large scale model at 1/12. I was able to buy one in Japan before they were discontinued. It was an expensive model costing $75 to $100 in U.S. dollars. Mint examples go for about $130 now. The model is highly detailed, molded well and comes with a good decal set so I think its worth the money. As you can see the hood, doors, and trunk all open and the front wheels will move back and forth when the steering wheel is turned.

73 Formula (181871 bytes)

73 Formula (64930 bytes)

73 Formula (68543 bytes)
This is an MPC kit of a '73 Formula (box identifies it as a Firebird). This kit builds one of three way's, Buck Baker Grand Am oval track racer, street machine, or stock. This kit features racing side exhaust, authentic Buck Baker decals, big racing tires, a front spoiler, de-stroked 400c.i. engine (303c.i.) headlight, taillight, and license plate covers, open racing wheels or chrome mags, super detailed racing interior with full roll cage, racing bucket seat, steering wheel and protective netting, rear window straps, and a rear spoiler. The kit is dated 1973. Like the kit above this is also a very rare kit and very collectable.

Otaki Kit# OT3-59
73 Trans Am (49301 bytes)

73 Trans Am (14378 bytes)

73 Trans Am (18698 bytes)

73 Trans Am (47922 bytes)
This is yet another Japanese kit of the '73 Trans Am. Its also 1/12 and manufactured by Otaki. When compared this kit and the one above look distinctly similar and its a good chance the kit above is this one released later by Doyusha. No further information is available at this time...
