MPC Kit# 1-0781

69 Firebird (36215 bytes)
This MPC '69 Firebird model came with an interesting option. T-tops were never offered on any Firebird until 1976. This is an interesting look at what might have been. The body doesn't actually come the way it is depicted on the box cover (go figure). If you want the T-Tops you have to cut them out. All '69 MPC models had this option. Decals included are what's shown on the box top plus some sponsor decals (i.e. Cragar, Mr. Gasket etc...) and a small bird for the trunk lid that matches the one on the hood. This is yet another model that doesn't state that its a Trans Am but it does include all the necessary parts to build it as such (hood, air extractors, and rear spoiler). The kit is dated 1978.

This MPC '69 Firebird kit was the only kit ever offered that came with everything needed to build the ultra rare convertible Trans Am (only 8 made) sans the appropriate blue stripes. It came with the correct hood, air extractors, and rear spoiler. It also comes with a cool hood tach and realistic top boot. The modeler need only paint the body parts white (it comes molded in an ugly yellow) and apply a correct set of decals which can be found through hobby stores and suppliers. Decals included in the kit only include the Sundancer decals shown on the cover and 2 North Carolina license plate decals. I have actually bought this model and built a '69 convertible Trans Am out of it. It came out really nice and looks exactly like a '69 TA convertible. I'll be posting a pic of it and my other Firebird models on this page soon.
This model usually sells for $40 - $75 depending on condition.

This is a 1/25 scale MPC kit of a '69 Firebird. The box top says there is a bonus turbine engine included. I have no idea why someone would want a turbine engine in a Firebird but what the hey!! No further information is available at this time...

This is an MPC kit of the 1969 Firebird. It is dated 1986 and is 1/25 in scale. All parts are molded in blue and bagged together and one tree of chrome parts. You can build it one of two ways. Street or Stock. It comes with light red pink blue and light blue decals as shown on the cover of the box. It also has two Citgo decals and two Hays decals. Two license plates decals from Missouri that read APE-009 in red with white lettering and two white decals that say Lucas. It looks like it comes
with the convertible option included to it also I see the convertible boot inside of the bag. You have two engine choices as well. The 400 c.i. or the OHV 6. Two wheel versions stock or custom. Roll Bars are also included as is a side exhaust as seen on the front cover. Tires are BF Goodrich Radial T/A's.  Front air dam, hood mounted tach, completely detailed engine and chassis.

69 Trans Am (45905 bytes)

69 Trans Am (54841 bytes)
This is a '69 Trans Am model offered by MPC. This model is a fairly rare model and is one of the few if not the only '69 model of a Trans Am that actually calls it a "Trans Am". Most you'll see call it a Firebird or in the case of the recently released AMT model a Firebird T/A. This may have something to do with the SCCA owning the name Trans Am (Pontiac leased it from them and pays them a dollar amount for every car using the name that is sold). There is no date on the box or instruction but it must be a very early '69 models because, if you will note, the "Ram Air" and "Trans Am" decals are in red as they were on the first white and blue proto-type Trans Am seen only in the '69 Trans Am magazine ad put out in '68. The model also includes a 400 hood. Decals included are just as shown on the box: blue stripes, 3-#5 decals, red Trans Am and Ram Air decals, and some sponsor decals.
