Steve owns this bright yellow Formula. Steve writes:
"Hi Jimmy, thought I'd send you some pics of my car
for the International section for your site. I previously had a '72 mach 1
mustang which I sold because I decided I wanted a bullnose firebird. I had
only seen a few of these cars over the few years that I had attended
American car shows here in England, so I bought a couple of books about 2nd
gen firebirds so I would know a good one when I saw it. In one of the books
' FIREBIRD AND TRANS AM' 67-94 by Holder and Kunz, on page 31, I saw my
first picture of a 1970 Formula 400. I'd never seen a Formula before and it
blew me away. It's bright yellow and I thought that it was one mean looking
motor. So I had found my car, a Formula 400. I scoured the ads and
looked at all the sites that sold American cars here in the UK but I never
saw one Formula for sale. I wasn't fussy, '70-'73 would be fine but what I
really wanted was a bright yellow 1970 like I had seen in the book, but I
never ever ever thought I'd find one, so any color would do me. Eventually I
kinda gave up the hope of finding a Formula 400, and went viewing several
bullnose firebirds including a 1972 455HO Trans Am white with blue with only
44k on the clock and as beautiful and powerful as that car was, it still
didn't quite make my hairs stand up when I looked at it so I passed it over
and waited some more. I put loads of wanted ads on the net asking for a
'70-'73 Formula 400. Then many months later I got an e-mail for a guy saying
he might have something that I might be interested in, he had seen one of my
want ads and that he was selling his 1970 Formula 400. He'd had it for 14
yrs, but the car had done less than 150miles in the last five years. He just
didn't drive her any more (strange man), anyway he sent me an attachment pic
of the car and I just couldn't believe my eyes when I downloaded and opened
the file. Low and behold a BRIGHT YELLOW 1970 FORMULA 400 and he only lived
20 minutes from my house. I had in fact actually found my car. I think even
if she had been a complete tea bag (full of holes) I would of still bought
her. She isn't a numbers matching car, nor is it her original color which
was Granada Gold and the engine is a rebuilt 1975 T/A engine with a .060
bore, TWR pistons, I don't know the compression but it has definitely been
increased, Lunati cam, 4bbl 750 Holley, Edelbrock Performer intake manifold
and now roller tip comp cams rockers, th400 tranny with a shift kit and a
B&M Quick Silver shifter, 15" Revolution split rims with 255 BFGoodrich
tires all round, she has 3.08 open rear end, she's a tidy car Jimmy, not the
cleanest because the work was done 10yrs ago now and she's starting to show
in a few places now but the engine and tranny had done less than 5k when I
got her. I've had her 3.5 yrs now and I still get that same kick when I open
the garage door as I did when i opened that attach pic for the very first
time. Anyway Jimmy, thanks for your help with the a/c wires, it was much
appreciated."
cheers,
