The three most important requirements for the site are:
Size and Quality of the Image

Size and Quality of the Image. The site minimum requirements are listed below: |
You can submit a maximum of 6 pictures...
Image size must be at least 640x480, HOWEVER if you can send larger images please do. I prefer 1024x768 as an optimum size...
What are those numbers you ask? They are standardized image resolutions measured in pixels. The three sizes most commonly used on the internet are 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768 but there are many more. The first is the width of the image and the second is the height of the image. Most digital cameras have an image size setting that you can set and most capture images at a default size that is significantly higher than 1024x768. Your camera may also have different image quality settings. Use higher settings for submitting images of your car.
For this site the larger the image you can submit the better. There are several reasons for this: larger images are easier to edit, look better after editing and display much better. Ask yourself, if you were browsing through some pics of a really cool car would you want to see large, crisp, clear and detailed images or small images that might be a little dark or blurry.

Images should be as clear and clean as possible...
Ultimately you want a digital image to look as much like a real photo as possible. Great ways to create digital images that will look great on the web are scanners and of course digital cameras. If you use a scanner, scan the photos at a high resolution i.e. 1024 x768 or higher and scan them at 300dpi. If you use a digital camera take the time to get some good shots, since you can delete and re-shoot any you don't like. Be careful of blurry images with cameras. Try to use a digital camera rated for 3 MegaPixels or higher and make sure your image quality settings are set high. If you only have a conventional camera get your shots developed somewhere that can put digital copies of the images on a CD for you. You can copy them from the CD to your PC and then attach them in an e-mail to me.

Images should not cut out some part of the car...
Quite often I get pictures where some part of the car was clipped out of the photo, typically the front or rear of the car or a corner. The exception to this is close-ups of trim or wheels etc... taken for obvious reasons.
Images should be taken in a scenic are if possible (even if its just your front or back yard)...
Ultimately, how well your car displays on the site is up to you. If you have a nice car and want to show it off, I'd tend to believe you don't want people to see pics of it in your driveway or in a parking lot full of other cars. Try to find an area that will highlight the car not distract people from looking at it.
Images should cover different angles and/or parts of the car...
People want to see the whole car. Believe it or not I've had people send me 3 or 4 pictures of the same angle of their car with only slight differences in the photo. Consider, if your car was at a car show, what parts of the car do you think they'd look at? There are no requirements as to what parts of the car must be photographed, however I always recommend four shots of the exterior, one of the interior, and one of the engine compartment.

Submission for one of the year by year lots...
If your submitting images for the year by year lots (i.e. your Firebird doesn't fit in any of the "Special" sections) there is no specific format. You may write-up whatever you want, but please do write something. I get a lot of submissions where the owner says, "Check out this great looking TA!" or "76 firebird, 400, auto, t-tops all original". People want to know about your car. They want to know what you've done to it, how its equipped and what its history might be. Think if you were at a car show and wanted to create a little mini-billboard to display with the car what would you put on it?
Submission for one of the special lots...
If your submitting images for one of the "Special" lots i.e. Drag Racing Firebirds, some of these sections use special formatting to make the browsing experience more enjoyable. Please take the time to visit the section you plan to submit to and get a feel for the formatting being used. You can see what I'm looking for at the Gallery FAQ as well.
Please include you first and last name in the e-mail submission.
I am not looking for private information and I don't use it for anything other than the entry on the site. If you have a serious problem with having your full name displayed with your car on the site I can leave it out. Just let me know. I get a lot of e-mails with good photos and good pics and no name.
Send it
all to submittals1@firebirdgallery.com
(remove the "1" in the e-mail address before you send)
Feel free to send more than one e-mail if necessary. Thanks for making your Firebird part of the Gallery!!!! |
