The 1973 Pontiac Firebird, Formula & Trans Am
Lot#3

This truly incredible SD455 Trans Am is owned by Roy Becker. Roy writes:

"My name is Roy Becker, I live in Michigan. This is a picture of my 1973 Trans Am. It has the SD455 Engine with an Automatic Transmission. Color is Buccaneer Red with Black Interior. It originally came with Rally II's And I changed it to the 15x7 Honeycomb rims. It has an AM Radio, Power Windows and chrome roof drip molding."

Buccaneer Red SD455 Trans Am Another SD455 Trans Am. This one is painted Buccaneer Red with a black interior and has the optional honeycomb wheels installed. The new optional SD455 block was the most exciting production block offered by any automaker by 1973. Underrated the early production blocks came in at 310hp while the later versions were reduced to 290hp to meet ever increasing emissions standards. The main changes occurred in the camshaft.

Vaughn Spanos owns this customized Trans Am. Vaughn writes:

"This TA is specially built with polygraphite suspension, 450 hp w/ 150 hp nitrous, 6-speed transmission, z-rated tires, 0-60 in 4.25 seconds, 1/4 mile w/o nitrous 12.79, top speed in excess of 160 mph as speedometer only goes that high."

Thank you,

Buccaneer Red SD455 Trans Am To me this car represents the pinnacle of Trans Am design and performance for the second generation cars. The introduction of several new colors (Lucerne Blue and White were the only available colors from '70 to '72), the new hood decal (which I have always loved), the new Super Duty 455 engine option, continued refinements in suspension technology and horsepower combined with creature comforts made this the undeniable best muscle car on the market in its day.
